Tassel Necklace {DIY}

tassle necklace diy all Need a quick DIY for Mother’s Day and need to incorporate your toddler?! No problem! Elliott and I made these tassel necklaces one afternoon. They are easy to be made and keep your toddler busy for the right amount of time.

All you need is some string (or ribbon, leather…), tassels (I bought mine at Michaels Craft Store super cheap), beads (plastic or glass) and a pair of scissors. tassels beads scissors diy beadsI would put the tassel on first and knot off one side for your toddler, otherwise you are going to spend more time picking up beads than making a necklace.  We had a bunch of plastic beads left over from E’s birthday party which matched perfectly our tassels. Elliott decided to go with green and yellow. tassle diy necklaceThe whole project might take 20 minutes, because it takes some time for the toddler to get the beads on the string. This is also a great exercise for their fine motoric.

You can either keep the necklaces for yourself or give them away as gift’s to Moms, Grandmas, Friends or even little girlfriends.

And if you feeling more crafty and have small beads at home you can also make tassel bracelets with elastic strings. I wouldn’t recommend toddlers for this one, because the beads are too small for their little fingers. tassel diy

What does the Fox say…

I was so happy to hear a couple days ago, that I was selected to test a pattern for two awesome gals in Germany. FinnLeys and Trollis Nadelwald worked together on the collaboration Freya meets Wildlife, which is just overly cute.IMG_2019

With this pattern you can create an super comfy costume for boys and girls. You can create a fox, dragon, raccoon, kitty or a bunny. And I just had to create a fox for the boys.5

And I have to say we are a bit fanatic with the foxes since Liam was born. As you can see 🙂 Finnley meets Wildlife

Elliott and I have listened to “What does the fox say..” over and over, it just gets stuck in your head and it”s funny, especially for a 3 year old Toddler.7

Boy Shorts

Summers are always busy, but this year it seems like we are even more busy with the beautiful weather we had. I’ve been sewing every now and then, but I must say rainy weather will make you do more crafts than beautiful Sunshine.

I initially made the shorts for Elliott for a short camping trip to Eastern Washington. It was a last minute idea and I used a pants pattern which I already had and made before. The pattern itself is for a long pair of pants and I just used half of the length of the long pair.

My first attempt I also made them smaller in the leg because they seemed too huge to me. Well I should have left them as they were, because they ended up too small. Elliott’s friend Oliver who is turning one soon, fit in them perfectly.

My second attempt I kept the sizes of the pattern and I added a contrasting trim to the waistband and hems. I used my serger for all the seams besides the waistband.

Also our house got painted and this way I can showcase our new red door, which I absolutely love.

My first attempt on doing my own pattern and doing kids apparel. And I must say I pretty happy and proud about this one.

It’s still a little large, but Elliott grows so fast, that it will fit perfectly soon.

Yes there are a couple of things, which are not completely “right”, but you learn from the process, which is the most important thing.

Making the jacket and seeing Elliott wearing it, reminds me of the jackets and clothes my Mum made for us. I loved wearing them and I am so happy that my Mum taught my sister and I the art of crafting.

The jacket is made out denim from the outside and cotton knit from the inside. The denim is stiff, because it’s not treated with any abrasion like they do with normal jeans you can buy in the store. The cotton knit was an old sweater from Tim, which was still in good shape and super soft. I love the color combination. I also used brown jeans thread for the top stitching.

The hood of the jacket is really big, but I really like it that way. I used ribbing for the cuffs.

A little update about Elliott: He is almost 20 months old, and his new words are “Beep Beep” and “oh oh” when something drops. He loves Elmo, to sing and to dance.

All purpose zipper bags diy

All purpose zipper bags

I always wanted to make some little bags, because you can have never enough. I usually carry my jewelry in it when I travel.

It was time for me to change my to-go make-up bag. I think I had it for almost 3 years and it has done it’s duty. So I had to either buy myself a new one or make myself a new bag. And of course I couldn’t resist than making myself a new one.

I also bought Paris fabric and to make a bag for my friend, who travelled recently to Europe and the last stop of her trip was Paris. Besides, she loves Paris and it was the perfect occasion for me to make her a little travel bag. She could use it for either her make up or for all the trinkets you keep and buy while you are on the go.

I always used contrasting fabric for the inside of the bags, so it would give it a little bit of a surprise when you open it.

The purple one I will send to Germany for my mum. Ihe inside fabric looks almost like Missoni fabric.

I found the tutorial for the bags here, but used different measurements.
